Netflix had to change significant detail in Squid Game after accidentally ruining a woman’s life

Squid Game season 2 is here and it’s changing people’s lives with its stellar plot, but for one woman, it just about ruined hers.

While the world tuned into Netflix’s top performing original TV show, another woman was battling with the ramifications of the series.

It’s been three years since the fantastic debut of season 1, which saw Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, battle it out against all odds to become the ultimate winner out of 456 contestants.

Season 2 picks right back up where it left off, having Gi-hun enter the game one more time to attempt to take own the shadowy overlords running the terrible competition which sees all but one person die.

However, the series had to quickly rectify a mistake after it accidentally ruined a woman’s life.

Hwang Dong-hyuk’s masterpiece featured a lot of little details, and one of which meant that a woman was barely able to live her life as normal.

In one scene in season 1, there was an eight-digit number on the Squid Game business card given to Gi-hun.

Now, if you add the South Korean mobile prefix, (010) it becomes a phone number you can really dial.

Unfortunately, people did go on to dial it and in 2021, a Seongju local became inundated by calls around the clock.

Kim Gil-young used this number for her business, as she was self-employed and had to suffer from 24-hour calls and texts.

She told Money Today at the time: “Since the airing of Squid Game, I’ve been receiving texts and calls 24 hours a day, to the point where it’s difficult to live my daily life.

“This is a number that I’ve been using for more than 10 years, so I’m quite taken aback. There are more than 4,000 numbers that I’ve had to delete from my phone.

“I get calls out of curiosity day and night without any sense of time, to the point where my phone battery would run out in half a day.”

While the number also appeared in episode 2, it was eventually taken out of further scenes.

“At first, I didn’t know what it meant, but I found out when my friends told me, ‘Your number appears in Squid Game,’” she added.

Gil-young complained to Netflix and the production company Siren Pictures.

Netflix said at the time: “Together with the production company, we are working to resolve this matter, including editing scenes with phone numbers where necessary.”

Just weeks later, her number was replaced with 010-034, which is totally uncallable.

While the business card does appear in Squid Game Season 2, that business card does show up again, it’s not the woman’s number again.

If you’ve not yet watched season 2, we spoke exclusively to the show’s creator, Dong-hyuk, who wrote Squid Game.

He shared that it’s a lot ‘darker’ than the first instalment, telling us: “What I can say for sure is that compared to season one, it’s going to be greater in scale. It’s going to be more intriguing.

“Some games are going to be more comical than ones you’ve seen in the past, and some are going to be even darker and more brutal than what you’ve seen in season one.

“There’s going to be a greater amount of entertaining factors, a huge range of experiences.

“It’s going to give you some really extremely sad, heartbreaking moments.”

Squid Game fans are Spider-Man memeing one another as Netflix drops a similarly terrifying series.

The new South Korean show tells the story of eight people who are desperate for a few quid and have been invited to take part in a shady reality TV show.

Sound familiar?

Contestants soon find themselves trapped in an eight-storey building in Seoul and the longer they stay, the more money they can earn.

The only difference is that all resources apart from food and water cost 1000 times more than normal prices.

As a live and unseen audience watch on behind the looking-glass, all eight contestants are forced to fight for their life.

Because if one dies, everyone loses.

Written and directed by Han Jae-rim, the dark comedy thriller is based on the Naver webtoons, Money Game and Pie Game, by Bae Jin-soo.

The premise centres around the idea that time really is money, as a countdown clock ticks down day by day.

Along the way, they have to figure out the hidden rules of the game before the time runs out.

As you can imagine, the group start to turn on each other.

And viewers have been left unsettled by the ‘messed up’ series, as one person commented: “Squid Game vibes but this one is so psychologically messed up.

“I love it. Really focuses on human nature and hierarchy.”

“While it was more intelligently written than Squid Game (and also more creative), at the end of the day it wasn’t as hard-hitting as squid game,” another person wrote.

“Still a masterpiece tho, watched all episodes in one day.”

“One of the best series ever! Watched it in one day, because you just can’t stop watching,” a third said.

A fourth commented that the show had them ‘screaming at their TV’, adding: “Worth the watch.”

Hwang Dong-hyuk, who directed the show, previously spoke to Associated Press about the unbelievable reception that season one received, and the desire among fans around the world to see more.

In 2021, the director said: “So, there’s been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice.

“But, I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen.”

The true story is being turned into a Netflix film releasing next month

An upcoming Netflix film inspired by a horrifying true story is causing viewers to re-examine a shocking episode of a dating game show in which a woman likely narrowly avoided death.

Hardcore fans of dating shows can often treat them as if they are a matter of life and death, however in this case, that was literally true.

The upcoming film, Woman of the Hour, will see Anna Kendrick make her directorial debut while also starring.

Kendrick will play Cheryl Bradshaw, the woman who narrowly avoided death on the American show called The Dating Game.

Bradshaw appeared on the show in September 1978, after receiving word she had been selected to be a bachelorette in the show.

She would speak to three men without seeing their faces, and pick one lucky suitor to take her out on a date.

She ended up selecting ‘bachelor number one’, which turned out to be a man by the name of Rodney Alcala.

Producers of the show did not carry out a background check on Alcala, who was a convicted child predator and serial killer.

At the time Alcala appeared on the show as a secret bachelor, he had already killed at least two women.

He had also served three years in prison for beating and raping an eight-year-old child.

Despite this, he was able to charm Bradshaw on the show with his sense of humour.

After he won, Bradshaw eventually pulled out of a potential date with the man, not knowing at the time that this almost certainly saved her life.

Following this rejection, Alcala carried out a horrific murder spree, leading one police officer to dub him a ‘killing machine’.

It is estimated that Alcala killed over 100 women, and was eventually caught after the brutal murder of 12-year-old Robin Samsoe in 1979.

After meeting Alcala face to face, she decided to cancel their upcoming date.

According to an interview with the Sydney Telegraph in 2012, Bradshaw said: ‘I started to feel ill’.

“He was acting really creepy. I turned down his offer. I didn’t want to see him again.”

She reportedly called up producer Ellen Metzger and said: “There’s weird vibes that are coming off of him. He’s very strange. I am not comfortable. Is that going to be a problem?”

Thankfully, the producers didn’t make Bradshaw go through with the date or else she almost certainly would have been killed.

Alcala was sentenced to death for his numerous murders in 2010, but died on death row of natural causes in 2021.

The Netflix film focusing on the true story releases October 18, and has received rave reviews so far.

It currently has a score of 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, while Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert.com has dubbed it ‘a confidently made thriller that’s not just a true crime story but an unpacking of systemic misogyny and how it encourages violence.’

Netflix had perfect reaction after accidentally showing Mike Tyson's naked bum on live stream

Netflix had perfect reaction after accidentally showing Mike Tyson’s naked bum on live stream

The streaming platform had a ‘cheeky’ response of their own

Brenna Cooper

Netflix has issued the perfect response after accidentally exposing Mike Tyson’s bare behind before his fight with Jake Paul.

Last night, or the early hours of this morning for anyone watching in the UKNetflix made their first foray into the world of live-sports broadcasting by streaming Jake Paul’s shock victory over the 58-year-old to TV screens around the world.

However, the nature of live broadcasting meant the night wasn’t without its fair share of hiccups.

Fans were, of course, quick to complain of issues with the content buffering and lagging, however, it was Tyson himself who also managed make his own exposing statement after his pre-fight interview.

Take a look at the clip below to see exactly what we mean:

In the clip, Tyson is asked by his son Amir about how he is expecting the fight to go, to which he responds ‘Vicious win’ before walking away from the camera and leaving his son – and everyone watching along at home – with quite the eye-full.

The moment did not go unnoticed with viewers, with the streamer themselves even weighing in on the moment.

Sharing the clip via their official X account, Netflix wrote: “Mike Tyson’s pre-fight interview got real cheeky.”

Which is certainly the understatement of the century.

It’s safe to say that viewers were not expecting the platform to highlight the moment online, with one person replying: “No way the official Netflix account posted this.”

Meanwhile others used the moment to complain about the night’s broadcasting issues, with a second person writing: “I love how my stream only worked to show me Mike Tysons buns.”

“I’m surprised this tweet wasn’t buffering,” a third person joked.

Unfortunately for Tyson, he shouldn’t attempt to make a career out of fortune telling anytime soon, as his prediction of a ‘vicious win’ didn’t quite come to fruition.

Instead, the boxing legend lost to former YouTuber Paul via unanimous decision. Tyson was able to land some punches on Paul in the earlier rounds, however, his age ultimately caught up with him and allowed the 27-year-old to take the glory on this occasion.

Despite losing in the ring both Tyson and Paul are winners when it comes down to the money made, with the two fighters getting an eye-watering amount of cash from the fight.

People worried about history repeating itself as new series from Game of Thrones creators drops on Netflix

People worried about history repeating itself as new series from Game of Thrones creators drops on Netflix

The new show has had mixed reviews

Jess Battison

People are getting worried about history repeating itself as a series from the Game of Thrones creators has dropped on Netflix.

The new show landed in the UK this morning (21 March) and it’s quite a change from the popular fantasy action-drama.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss created Game of Thrones together, and have collaborated with Alexander Woo, for the show starring the likes of John Bradley, Benedict Wong, Eiza González, Liam Cunningham and Alex Sharp.

The new Netflix sci-fi thriller explores how a woman’s ‘fateful decision’ back in the 1960s in China ‘reverberates across space and time into the present day’.

In 3 Body Problem, a group of scientists ‘join forces with an unorthodox detective to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history’.

Yeah, like I said, quite a different vibe to Game of Thrones.

But the fact that it’s created by Benioff and Weiss is putting some viewers off.

Users on X say they were about to start watching it on Netflix today but seeing the creator’s names was an ‘immediate no’, with another saying it gave them ‘PTSD’.

One wrote: “Sis, I screamed “Benioff and Weiss?????” And closed it immediately.”

The show is now streaming on Netflix.

As fans will know, not everyone was particularly happy with the pair as Game of Thrones came to an end.

Some fans accused them of ‘ruining’ the iconic show as it came to its conclusion and say they ‘really f**ked the end’.

And one user wrote: “I love sci-fi but I refuse to watch any show made by David Benioff & Dan Weiss. Have not forgiven them for what they did to game of thrones.”

With another putting: “Benioff and Weiss better not screw up 3 Body. My expectations are high.”

And others are drawn to the new series purely because of the creators as a user put: “Now watching 3 Body Problem not knowing the plot or the cast and only that Benioff and Weiss produced it. Let’s see what this is giving.”

While another added: “Benioff and Weiss haters are having a tough day today.”

An adaptation of a Chinese novel, the series has been a mixed bag with viewers so far, sitting with a 50 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

More positively though, it’s currently got 76 percent on the Tomatometer.

Viewers on X say it has their ‘jaw dropped’ as it has ‘some truly wild sci-fi stuff’.
